Egg Drop Thingy!

Well, we used popsicle sticks, a parachute (Pink Trash Bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and cotton balls, hot glue, and one egg. It was awesome how we set it up & painted it; we uhhh well this assignment is hard & I'm tiredish so yah the egg layed in a triangular prismish thing filled with cotton inside a cube. It's hard to explain, so anyways Mr. Jordan thinks that all of the eggs are going to "die" as he says and all but one group survived the first round. I think ours worked the parachute worked okayish, but it could have been better. We stuff together with hot glue and now I'm going to put a list of things we could use:
  1. 50 popsicle sticks
  2. string
  3. rubber bands
  4. miscellanous material
  5. Our brains

We used four out of the five materials including:

  1. few popsicles sticks
  2. rubber bands
  3. miscellanous material:cotton that fit in the required 3x3x1 inch area and screws
  4. our brains

It was awesome but i think we shouldh've used Jell-O like Casey's group and Play-do. So yah the football field was such a fail!!!!!!!!!!!!! The balcony in the gym was a 12 foot drop so that made a huge plop but our egg survived!!!!!!! The football field was 35-40 foot drop according to Mr. Jordan just a second ago. Is this 5 sentences yet???? Lol Mr. Jordan said that so if you're Mr. Jordan and reading this, I just had to put that. If your not then you can ignore that sentence you just read, because it wasted 5 seconds of your life, have a nice day :)!!!

Astrology Project!!!

Astrology is sooooo weird lol. Astrology is about the stars, planets, and the sun's alignment. Sometimes astrology is so powerful that it controls countries' futures!!!! Take India, for instance, astrology is taken is so important in politics that if you predict the wrong future you get arrested!!!! There is the "Western" way and the Chinese way. The Western way is when your Zodiac is about the month and day you were born and you have people like Aries, Gemini, Capicorn, Aquarius, Cancer, Leo, Saggitarius, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Pisces, and Taurus. The Chinese way is like the Tiger, Snake, Rat, Ox, Dragon, Rabbit, Dog, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Pig, and Rooster. Unlike, the Western way, the Chinese way is determined by the year you are born.

Surveillance cameras

I think that public places should have cameras. Correction, they should still have it. If a bank robber or a wanted thief was seen on tape taking something, well, we could get them into jail before something gets out of hand. Sure we would have to give up a little privacy, but it's not like they are going to install a camera in the shower. Now, that would be an issue. It would help put a lot of bad people in jail that needed to be there.

What I Learned About the Holocaust

These people were kids from the Holocaust
As everyone knows, the 8th graders learned about the Holocaust. I learned lots of thungs I never knew. For example, I've heard of Anne Frank, but I really never knew what she was famous for. I also learned that Adolf Hitler didn't kill just blonde hair, blue-eyed Jewish people, but he killed just about anyone except for the Germans. The ironic thing about the Holocaust was, Hitler was also Jewish. I learned about the different types of camps, and I thought that they only had death camps. Well, they actually had work camps, so that's how the survivors survived. It was a very sad time, and the sadest part was, is that they killed 11 million people before they were stopped! Anne Frank also didn't die in a gas chamber, she would have been liberated (or freed) if she wouldn't have gotten typhus. She and her sister, Margot (pronounced Margo) had 3 weeks until they were liberated. Anne would help other people, and her diary was found in the Secret Annex where they were found. It is really sad; I almost cried. If I would have been torn away from my family, lied to, decieved, scanned, found out, turned in, I would have really been depressed. I mean, how could these people do this to other people. Well, what is done, is done. We have to learn from our mistakes.

Jack London

Now that we are done with e-mailing the Iditarod mushers, we did a short study over Jack London, the author of the Call of the Wild. I've learned since Jack London was 8, he has been out in the "real world" working. He tried out college, but that really didn't work out. He also became a hobo and traveled across the U.S. and Canada. Jack London also searched for gold in the Klondike, where no one talked. In October, 1816, when he was 40 years old, he ended his life by over-dosing on medicine. He was married twice, and had two girls. When he remarried, he married a girl named Charmane. He also joined pirates, and he owned a boat named the Stark. It must have been really hard for him, especially if he commited suicide. Well, he had a pretty bad life if he had to get a job at age 8!

Iditarod 2010

So far, I've e-mailed a lot of mushers, again. Anyway, some people have responded, and the rest, haven't, yet. I hope that they all respond. Jeff King hasn't had a new litter yet; they are waiting til this summer, when it's warmer. The Buser team is naming their dogs after the people who work on the show Dirty Jobs. Bruce Linton has put me on his e-mailing list, so that's pretty cool! We are going to start The Call of The Wild tomorrow (hopefully)! That's all for now, yup, so peace (Y)

Iditarod 2010

Yay! I got an e-mail from Bruce Linton and he put me on his e-mailing list. Mrs. Hicks is really excited! I can't wait until we start reading the Call of the Wild! I hope a lot of people e-mail me back. So far I've e-mailed Martin Buser, Bruce Linton, Lance Mackey, Dee Dee Jonrowe, and Ken Anderson. I hope I can hear from them all. So far, I've only gotten a reply from Bruce Linton, but I've already said that. A lot of these people have/had cancers that they had to battle out. I'm into the Iditarod so I hope that I can run the Iditarod, too.

Iditarod

So far, we watched a video over the 2008 Iditarod. We are going to read The Call of the Wild by Jack London. Lance Mackey and Dee Dee Jonrowe are my favorite mushers. Lance Mackey has won three times in a row. He belongs to a club that only has four members, this club is for winners who have won back-to-back races. Every other year, the Iditarod mushers go seperate ways. On even years, the go on to the check point called Cripple and on odd years, they go onto the checkpoint call Iditarod. Dee Dee Jonrowe finished in 15th place in 2008. This year we are going to do Trail Mail, which is when you write letters and it stays with the mushers until they reach Nome, which is the finish line. I can't wait to read The Call of Wild!

The Best Gifts I Ever Got

Tess, my baby! :)
C.J. my other baby! :)

Well, the best gifts I ever got was my horse, and my dog. Tess, who is a paint, or pinto, (same thing though) is my horse. She is now three since Januarary 1st, 2010. According to horse racing rules, any horse that is racing was born on Januarary 1st. It doesn't matter if they were born on Feburary 3rd, their new birthday is Janurary 3rd. Anyway, she is my angel, though still in training, she is the best horse ever. She is soooo sweet. Some of my friends have met her, and they fell in love with her. She has such a personality, like most animals. She has an attitude when you do something she doesn't like. She is a leader, and if you try to show any signs of rising above her, she won't allow it. She is the sweetest and most responsive thing if you get along with her. If not, well, you better learn how to ride a horse or your in trouble.

The other gift that I have recieved that I love is C.J. She is my baby, and she has hip displacia. She also has a facebook fan page. If you have one, look up C.J. the Golden Retriever. You'll find her. If you also google her with "quotations" you'll find her on the top of the first page. She always been with me. She likes me best, because I pay attention to her instead of Lars. She was diagnosed with hip displacia before her 2nd birthday, and she is now 4 years old. She is the quietest dog out of her & Lars, but when she wants you know to know how much she missed you she will defiently let you know. I've always been there with her, actually begging my parents to take her to the vet when she was having hip spasms. My parents didn't see it at the time, so they kind of doubted how bad it really was. She & Tess are the hilight of my day when I see them, so is my family! I don't know what I'll do without them.

Infertile Soil

What happens to soil and humus when you add hot weather, removal of topsoil, or intense cultivation without replacing your humus into the mixture? You cook up a bunch of Infertile Soil. Where does infertile soil affect? Well, Egypt used to have the Nile River as their source for humus. The Nile would drag the humus and deposit it into the soilbeds. Recently, the Egyptians have dammed off the Nile River so they can use it as a source of electricity. There isn't really a specific species that is affected by infertile soil, but it does affect trees. See, trees need nutrients, and doesn't soil provide nutrients? Without fertile soil, the trees can't get their nutrients and they will die :( poor trees. So, if there are no trees, there aren't going to be animals, and without animals...well, you get the point. I am a tree hugger aparently to some of my friends, so I feel bad for the poor trees! Soil needs to be replaced, but it takes forever until the soil can reform. We take soil for granted, or so I researched. If you want to find more go to these websites:
That's all folks!

Picture Upload Practice

If I could go here I would write in the sand, look for shells under that sand and probably jump the waves. It's look really fun so, yah I'm glad it's not polluted because one time....okay that's another story, lol! Anyway, I would probably also boogieboard. That is fun but I kind of suck at that lol!

English Project

Hi, y'all! Okay, for my English project I made two baskets filled with surplus. LOL, surplus is stuff. So yah, I used all four of the persuasive things: Bandwagon, Transer, Testimonial, and Emotional Words. You have to buy them, because they have home-made cookies and perfume, lip gloss, body glitter, etc. in them! You will love them! Peace (Y)
